Mike Freeman

Mike-Freeman_ball.JPG

As Community Network Manager Mike works with Special Olympics New Zealand's eight Regional Sports Coordinators organising programmes for schools and clubs and overseeing our regional sports events.

It's a role he is well suited to being a self confessed 'sports nut'.  Sport features predominantly in the Wellingtonian's life and he is an ardent follower of football, basketball, netball, rugby league and rugby.

Trained as a special education teacher, Mike has worked with a range of athletes in schools, most recently Rongotai College where he spent a year working with students with moderate to severe intellectual disabilities.  Prior to that role Mike ran Massey University's Development and Alumni Relations unit and was Fundraising and Communications Manager for Wesley Wellington Mission, a not-for-profit organisation focused on 'at risk' youth and their families.

Outside of work Mike can be found at the gym, watching football, playing basketball with his son (who also referees) or sharing a coffee with his daughter.
