Club volunteers are the backbone of Special Olympics New Zealand.

Depending on the individual Club, more than one role may be held by the same person. Below are general descriptions of common volunteer jobs.

Club chairperson is a supportive leader for the Club.

Club coordinator provides leadership to the Club and represents Special Olympics in the local community.

The Club secretary acts as the first point of call for information about the Club.

The Club treasurer is responsible for the general administration and control of the club’s finances.

Coaches provide a well planned quality training and competition programme offering Special Olympics athletes skill development, fitness, competition and fun. Assistant coaches help the coach provide a well-run training and competition programme offering Special Olympics athletes skill development, fitness, competition and fun.

Depending on the Club, other volunteers fill roles such as sports team coordinator, team managers, fundraising coordinator, driver, event organiser or social coordinator.

If you are interested in being a volunteer, contact your local club!
