Kym represented New Zealand in equestrian at the Special Olympics Summer Games in Shanghai and won a gold medal in dressage. She still rides regularly and also competes in swimming for Special Olympics New Zealand. Kym works for the YMCA in their after school care and holiday programs and loves working and helping children. Since becoming a Global Messenger Kym has continued to work on her personal development completing a first aid course. She is also the Athlete Representative on the Special Olympics Waikato committee, a role that sees her attend monthly meetings and assist at various ribbon days in the region. Kym is keen to develop equestrian and swimming in the Waikato and help promote both sports.
