Fit Feet screening

At the Special Olympics New Zealand 2009 National Summer Games, 13 volunteer podiatrists were recruited to screen the athletes’ feet and biomechanics. They were assisted by Rotary Club and Palmerston North City Council volunteers. The team screened the feet of 825 athletes.

Gait abnormalities were found in 602 (73%) athletes. Nail or skin abnormalities were found in 479 (58.1%) athletes and bone deformities were found in 96 athletes.
