What SONZ does
First and foremost a sports organisation, Special Olympics New Zealand (SONZ) equips athletes with far more than the physical benefits of sport.
With sports as their anchor, our athletes develop both physically and emotionally — with far-reaching impact across all areas of their lives.
Athletes make new friends and find a sense of belonging.
SONZ brings fun, laughter, team spirit, aroha, training and so much more awesome stuff that people with an intellectual disability might otherwise miss out on.
Ultimately SONZ is a whānau — and everyone with an intellectual disability is welcome to be a part of our kind organisation.
We believe everyone should have the opportunity to do whatever they want to.
So we're here to help all our athletes, volunteers and staff to discover their passions and realise their dreams — not only in sport but in all areas of life.
