Four Special Olympics New Zealand athletes have been selected to represent New Zealand at the Special Olympics Australia National Games, taking place in Melbourne from 19–23 October 2026.

The New Zealand team will compete in golf and equestrian, and will be supported by three volunteers.

Representing New Zealand in golf is Karlin Spiers from Special Olympics Nelson, supported by Vicki Spiers, also from Nelson.

The equestrian team includes Sarah Dalton and Andreea Stewart from Special Olympics Manukau, and Emma Wilton from Special Olympics Waikato. They will be supported by Kelsey Dalton from Manukau and Kara Blakiston from Waikato.

The National Games will give the athletes the opportunity to compete away from home, meet other Special Olympics athletes and be part of a major Special Olympics event in Melbourne.

Special Olympics New Zealand Games Partner NOVUS New Zealand is generously supporting the team, helping make the opportunity possible for our athletes and volunteers to attend.

Congratulations to Karlin, Sarah, Andreea and Emma, and to Vicki, Kelsey and Kara. We look forward to following the team when they head across the Tasman in October.
